Mood-Boosting Houseplants

Need a mood booster? Studies show you can ward off seasonal sadness, improve concentration and reduce stress by bringing plants into your home. Here are 5 of our favorites:

English Ivy

This romantic, creeping vine is not only beautiful, but it is an extraordinarily effective air purifier. (Fun fact: It was dubbed by NASA scientists as the best air-filtering houseplant.)

Lavender has been used medicinally to calm nerves, relieve headaches, prevent insomnia and aid in depression. Lavender’s soothing scent is a mainstay in aromatherapy treatments.

Orchids bloom year-round, bringing a mood-enhancing pop of color indoors even during winter’s gloomiest days. (Fun fact: Feng Shui practitioners use orchids to increase positive energy in a room.)

Anthuriums, also known as Flamingo Flower, are easy to care for and bloom constantly—especially during February and March. (Fun fact: The leaves are heart shaped!)

Sansevieria, also known as a Snake Plant, is one of the top plants for improving indoor air quality according to NASA. While most plants do not release fresh oxygen at night, this evergreen does! Purified air can help you sleep better.
