Spring has arrived here in the “Land of Enchantment” and you can see all the colors of the rainbow around every corner. What you see in bloom will depend on what part of the state you live in.
Ornamental flowering trees and shrubs are lining the streets and yards in every neighborhood in the state. The Thundercloud Plums, Royal Raindrops Crabapples, Oklahoma Redbuds and Kwansan Cherries, just to name a few, are amazing right now!
Fruit trees are blooming so let’s keep our fingers crossed that we don’t have a hard freeze before fruit develops.
Lilacs and wisteria are blooming and some have beautiful fragrances that swirl around us like perfume. Red tip photinia are just starting to form flower bouquets to add to the excitement!
Perennials are gorgeous in our New Mexico flower beds and landscapes. The ground covers of phlox are stunning in pinks and purples, canytuft in white and catmint in purple. Columbine and Mexican evening primrose are also in bloom.
Bulbs are going through their yearly ritual of popping up with beautiful colors and fragrances, seemingly out of nowhere. The hyacinth is so wonderfully fragrant and colorful. Some tulips will naturalize and spread out.
Annual pansies and violas that have been planted last fall or this spring will be at their height of beauty right now. Now or very soon it will time to replace them with all the wonderful summer flowering annuals such as million bells petunias, marigolds, impatiens, zinnias, gazania, portulaca, lantana, begonia, salvia, geraniums, dianthus, dahlias, alyssum, lobelia and verbena and so many more.
